TESLA ACCELERATOR INSTALLATION
The TESLA Accelerator Installation (TAI) is a facility for production, acceleration and use of ion beams in science and medicine. Its main part is the VINCY Cyclotron, which is a medium-sized isochronous cyclotron. The construction of TAI began in December 1989, on the basis of a special decision of the Government of Serbia. The strategic partner of the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences in this endeavor is the Joint Institute.
FAMA
Present FAMA
FAMA is the low energy part of TAI. It represents a user facility for basic and applied research in the field of modification and analysis of materials with ion beams (FАcility for Modification and Analysis of materials with ion beams). FAMA is also the largest part of the scientific infrastructure in Serbia. It is located in the Laboratory of Physics of the Vinča Institute. The present FAMA comprises two machines and two experimental channels. The machines are a plasma source of multiply charged heavy ions (M1) and a plasma source of positive or negative light ions (M2). The experimental channels are the channel for analysis of ion beams (C1) and the channel for surface modification of materials (C2). They are connected to the M1 machine.
OTHER
Other existing equipment
The other equipment that is available to the team in the realization of the project is listed in the following.
  1. 1. Ion chromatograph, Advanced Compact IC system 861, produced by Metrohm, Switzerland. The device consists of an injector, double piston pump, column support with columns, suppressor, peristaltic pump and conductivity detector. A computer program for the process control and data storing and processing is also included. The detection limit is about 1 ppb. The equipment was purchased in 2007 through a SCOPES international project.

  2. 2. Polarographic and voltammetiric device, 793 VA Computrace Analyser, produced by Metrohm, Switzerland. The device is a trielectrode system for voltammetric and polarographic analysis that enables one to apply various techniques (cyclic, differential pulse etc.). The mercury, silver, gold and glassy carbon electrodes are used. A computer system for the process control and data storing and processing is also included. The detection limit is below 1 ppb. The equipment was purchased in 2006.

  3. 3. Raman spectrometer, Advantage 532, produced by DeltaNu, USA. The device includes a YAG type laser of the wavelength of 532 nm. The spectral range is from 200 to 3400 cm-1. The equipment was purchased in 2008.

  4. 4. Device for temperature programmed desorption and mass spectrometry, appeared through the selfconstruction. It includes an MR200 heater with programer, produced by mPEM, Serbia, and an Extorr 300 mass spectrometer, produced by Extorr, USA. The mass spectrometer enables one to analyze the molecules of the mass up to 300 amu and operates under the conditions of high vacuum. The parts of the device were purchased in 2005 and the device was commissioned in 2006.
